Interview – Meet Melissa Van Roosbroeck of Kiss & Make-up
1. Tell us a little about yourself:
My name is Melissa and I’m a twenty-something beauty addict from Belgium.
I currently live in Switzerland together with my high school sweetheart Tom who I (finally!) got engaged to this month.
I obviously love writing about make-up and beauty, but I am also a passionate skier and I love hiking.
Though I can definitely enjoy the finer things in life like going out for a nice dinner or staying at a chic hotel, I am actually also a very nature-oriented person and I am a big animal friend.
I guess I’m a person of contrasts.
But for me all those contrasts are what make life interesting and exciting.
2. What made you start blogging and what’s the story behind KissandMakeupsBeautyBlog?
In 2012 I started working as a make-up artist under the name Kiss & Make-up and I created a website for my business.
I thought it would be a fun idea to start a beauty blog as part of the website as a way to draw in clients, so I did.
At first I posted very irregularly and the blog was really nothing but a little side project.
But it quickly grew into something much more serious and now the blog is my main focus.
I really fell in love with blogging and I’ve become totally addicted to it.
3. Can you remember the moment when you realized that makeup is your passion? If yes, tell us more…
I started getting into make-up at the age of 14, but it wasn’t until I was in my early twenties that I really got serious about it.
It was then that I started to really play and experiment with make-up and discovered my passion for it.
Make-up became my creative outlet and it became a very important part of my life.
4. If you had to make it, how would your list of 5 most important makeup products look like…
- Eyeliner and mascara would definitely be high on the list.
- And I’d probably also put eyebrow gel or eyebrow powder on there.
- I love a good power brow.
- A cute coral lipstick is also pretty indispensable.
- And let’s not forget about tools.
- Good make-up brushes can make all the difference.
5. Do you have favorite brands in makeup products?
Ooh, this is a tough one… For eyeshadow I really love MAC.
For face make-up I’m a big fan of Bobbi Brown.
And I also have a soft spot for anything Sisley.
6. Do you personally prefer classic makeup styles or enjoy following trends?
I’m definitely not what you’d call a classic beauty, but I wouldn’t call myself a trend whore (pardon my French) either.
I’m a big fan of the smokey eye with soft lips combo.
It’s been my signature look for years now.
7. Please give us your 5 main tips for the the girls out there trying to find their “look”?
- Follow your heart and wear whatever feels right for you.
- Don’t copy others, but really try to find a look that helps you to express who you are and makes you unique.
- In order to find that look you’ll need to try different things, so don’t be afraid to experiment and always remember to have fun with make-up.
8. What are your favorite makeup websites/blogs?
Two of my biggest examples are Christine from Temptalia and Karen from makeupandbeautyblog.com.
These ladies are experts in their field and they really made it big.
I definitely look up to them.
Closer to home I really enjoy reading Sunny’s blog at mostlysunnyblog.com and I also really admire the quality of Jaa’s blog at hellojaa.com.
And I also want to give a special shout-out to Sylirael from The Painted Rogue.
She’s a beauty loving gamer like me and she combines her love for fantasy and gaming with her passion for make-up.
All these girls are not just great bloggers, but they’re also awesome people and I’m so happy I got to know them.
9. A message to your fans.
